Xfinity results at Atlanta: Austin Hill sweeps the Georgia track

HAMPTON, Ga. -- The car color may have changed, but the winner remained the same. Austin Hill captured Saturday's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway and completed his season sweep at the Georgia track.

Parker Kligerman finished second while continuing to seek his first series win. AJ Allmendinger, Chandler Smith, and Corey Heim rounded out the top five.

A six-car incident collected several contenders, including Justin Allgaier, Cole Custer, and Ryan Sieg. This incident set up a 13-lap dash to the checkered flag, which primarily featured Hill and Chandler Smith battling for position.

Smith led one lap but it was Hill who took control with 12 to go. He remained in the front of the pack as the laps clicked down, but Hill had one final opportunity to make a move.

Smith made contact with the rear of Hill's No. 21 and got it loose. He then dove to the inside with an opportunity to potentially make the race-winning pass. However, Corey Heim and Parker Kligerman stuck on the outside with Hill. The result was the Joe Gibbs Racing driver losing all momentum.

Heim tried to move to the outside of Hill after taking the white flag, but he hit the outside wall. This opened up an opportunity for both Kligerman and Allmendinger to pass him and attempt to chase down Hill. They just ran out of time.

Notable: Hill has nine wins in the Xfinity Series. Seven of these wins have been in drafting-style races. Hill has four wins at Atlanta since 2022 and three at Daytona.

Stage 1: Justin Allgaier won stage 1 after a late drag race. Austin Hill, Riley Herbst, Sheldon Creed, Jesse Love, Sam Mayer, Brandon Jones, Cole Custer, Chandler Smith, and Taylor Gray finished in the top 10.

Allgaier has 14 stage wins this season, the most in the series. Smith is second with five.

Stage 2: Sam Mayer brought out the caution with three laps left in stage 2. He moved up to take a spot in front of Taylor Gray, but he was not clear. He spun into the outside wall. This destroyed the rear of the car and led to flames billowing from under the No. 1 Chevrolet. Mayer was able to climb from the car.

AJ Allmendinger won stage 2 under caution after leading every lap of the stage. Sammy Smith, Cole Custer, Riley Herbst, Justin Allgaier, Jesse Love, Taylor Gray, Chandler Smith, Shane van Gisbergen, and Sheldon Creed finished in the top 10.

Next: Xfinity Series teams have two races remaining in the regular season. Next up is a race at Watkins Glen International on Saturday, Sept. 14.
