MORE: Kansas starting lineup, Bell wins pole
"It's the people that work on this race car that made the statement," Bell told NBC Sports after winning the pole. "And today we showed up with probably our best Kansas car we've ever had.
"It's always been a great track for us to qualify at, and it seems like whenever we go race, we're always like that -- I don't know -- that third to seventh range. Today, it was different. It felt really, really good in practice, I felt really comfortable driving the car."
Teammate Ty Gibbs, who failed to reach the Round of 12, will line up second after posting a lap of 30.151 seconds. Kyle Busch (30.151 seconds), Tyler Reddick (30.207 seconds), and Joey Logano (30.333 seconds) rounded out the top five.
The rest of the top 10 features more playoff drivers. This includes William Byron (30.295 seconds), Ryan Blaney (30.454 seconds), Denny Hamlin (30.300 seconds), Chase Briscoe (30.688 seconds), and Daniel Suarez (30.315 seconds).
Kyle Larson in 11th (30.278 seconds), Alex Bowman in 12th (30.452 seconds), Austin Cindric in 17th (30.319 seconds), and Chase Elliott in 38th (30.319 seconds) were the four playoff drivers to miss the second round of qualifying.
Elliott completed his qualifying lap while struggling with engine issues. He was already set to drop to the rear of the field as his team conducted an engine change.
Jimmie Johnson returned to the No. 84 Legacy Motor Club Toyota for the Kansas weekend. He qualified 35th with a lap of 30.892 seconds. Johnson will make his 31st career Cup start at the intermediate track and his second of the season. He finished 38th in the spring race at Kansas due to a crash.
Sunday's Round of 12 opener will take place at 3 p.m. ET. USA Network will provide TV coverage for the race. Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM will have the radio call as drivers battle for a spot in the Round of 8.
