Sometimes, it's best when the cameras are not rolling. This is something a content creator could learn after crashing his 2024 McLaren while streaming.
Jack Doherty, a YouTuber and Kick streamer with 14.9 million subscribers, was filming Saturday as he drove his McLaren in heavy rain. He had his phone in one hand, which he kept looking at while steering one-handed. The car then hydroplaned and veered across traffic as Doherty tried to regain control.
He was unsuccessful.
The camera in the car did not show the extent of the crash, but Doherty continued streaming. The footage showed his totaled car wedged under the guardrail. It also showed his injured passenger, who had blood running down his forehead.

According to Doherty's YouTube channel, he purchased the McLaren last summer at the age of 19. The car was black upon purchase, but the YouTuber had since wrapped it with a custom scheme.
Doherty posted another angle of the video on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The video showed him being pulled from the car while talking about his car. For some reason, he continued filming himself.
The passenger, who Doherty called Michael, could be seen in the second video grasping his wrist as he remained in the destroyed McLaren. Another post on X showed that the two young men had gone to the hospital. Michael received stitches for his head injury.
The response to the video, and Doherty's subsequent posts highlighting "his links," did not generate sympathy on social media. Instead, users expressed anger about the YouTuber focusing more on his car than his injured friend.
"(Your) friend got injured from your stupid mistake and you're milking it?" one person asked. A few others weighed in and expressed a desire to see Michael take legal action after sustaining injuries.
